ACCOSCA Background

ACCOSCA is a Pan African confederation of national associations of savings and credit cooperatives societies established in 1968. The organization was revitalized in 2009 having been defunct from 1999.

The General Assembly which currently comprises of twenty-eight countries is the highest organ of the organization. Currently, ACCOSCA has developed programs aimed at empowering and promoting cooperatives in Africa and is collaborating with various government bodies, development agencies and research institution in her service delivery to promote financial inclusion in Africa. Overall ACCOSCA aims at: Promoting the establishment of an institutional framework for mobilizing personal saving and credit cooperatives, Capacity Building, Technical Assistance, Information exchange and Research on topical issues and address them amicably. ACCOSCA is instituting change in her organisation that is guided by the current strategic plan which is a five year plan from 2021 -2026 with a view of strengthening institutional structure and operations.

ACCOSCA Vision : To promote Financial Inclusion in Africa.

Main Purpose of The Job

The project Coordinator is responsible for supporting project managers in organizing and executing ongoing projects and will report to Head of programs. The task involves preparing and monitoring project work plans and schedules, organizing and participating in stakeholder meetings and ensuring that project deadlines are met in a timely manner. The project coordinator also has responsibility to provide input for department’s operational plans including proposal/funding submissions and AFRICAN CONFEDERATION OF COOPERATIVE SAVINGS AND CREDIT ASSOCIATIONS (ACCOSCA) ASSOCIATION DES COOPERATIVES D’EPARGNE ET DE CREDIT D’AFRIQUE 2 appeals and preparation of project and specified ACCOSCA events reports.

Job Objective: Responsibilities of Project Coordinator

Specific responsibilities of the project coordinator: The project coordinator, operating
within agreed reporting structures, is responsible for:

Project Planning and Implementation (60%)

  • Develop and monitor project work plans, budgets, and expenditures.
  • Prepare and submit concept papers/proposals in line with departmental goals under the guidance of line manager.
  • Organizing and participating in project-related stakeholder meetings/events and documenting and follow up on important actions and decisions.
  • Ensuring projects adhere to agreed frameworks and all documentation is maintained appropriately for each project.
  • Prepare project reports.
  • Ensuring project deadlines are met.
  • Providing administrative support as needed.
  • Will be occasionally required to support the implementation of the project.
  • Facilitate meetings where appropriate, prepare and distribute minutes to all project team members.
  • Create a project management calendar for fulfilling each strategic goal and objective.

Monitoring and Evaluation (20% of time)

  • Tracking project progress- contributes towards formulating work plans. Determine and take corrective actions where necessary applying change control and configuration management processes.
  • Project status reporting – conducting a project evaluation review to assess how well the project was managed.
  • Timely provision of reports to management, not later than two weeks after the execution of each project.
  • Archiving and filing of project documents (Preferably in scanned copies).
  • Actively engage the head of programs in value creation by submitting any identified follow up actions and or recommendations.

Supporting Linkages to Communication (20% of the time)

  • Provide regular project and event updates/reports to the communication department. This is in line with the organizations strategic goal towards supporting Knowledge Management initiatives in print and social media platforms.
  • Contribute towards mobilizing participants during events.
  • Support effective communication within projects.
  • Facilitates and/or co-facilitates workshops or meetings as appropriate to capture the input and insight ACCOSCA SACCOs professionalism Agenda.

Background Requirements

Education: Formal Qualifications.

Essential: Bachelor’s Degree in Project Management or Its equivalent or Business Administration or Advanced Diploma in Cooperative Management or recognized equivalent.

Desirable: Project Management Qualifications, Micro-Finance, Entrepreneurship, or any other relevant field would be an added advantage.

Personal Specification

Essential:

  • Comfortable planning and delivering multiple activities under pressure to strict deadlines and high levels of precision.
  • Able to communicate complex issues in a concise, accessible, and engaging way.
  • Able to work as part of a team in a co-operative and supportive way, particularly with staff and stakeholders for whom English is not their first language.

Job Related Skills Knowledge:

  • Ability to develop and execute effective project work plans and schedules.
  • Ability to adhere to and timely execute on agreed project plan.
  • Knowledge of MS Office; working knowledge of program/project management software (Basecamp, MS Project etc.) is a strong advantage.
  • Capacity to conceptualize project interventions.
  • Strong communication skills -build and sustain effective communications with other roles involved in the project.
  • Strong professional writing skills.
  • Knowledge of event planning and operational delivery desirable.

b) Limited resources against several competing ACCOSCA needs.

c) Risks and consequences of making financial mistakes and not meeting the targeted objectives.

d) May work during odd hours.
