VOICE for Women and Girls

Note: This is a voluntary assignment. A meal/incidental allowance and transport allowance will be
covered by CDF Canada


The VOICE for Women and Girls project, a seven-year initiative (2020 – 2027) which is aimed at
strengthening the performance of developing country partner (DCP) organizations to advance gender
equality and economic empowerment of 50,000 women and men from marginalised communities, in
particular young women (target: 60% women and girls), in Ethiopia, Ghana, Kenya, Senegal and Malawi
with a focus on action areas of the Feminist International Assistance Policy (FIAP), namely:

  • Gender Equality and the Empowerment of Women and Girls, and
  • The growth that Works for Everyone.

The Project responds to the needs identified by women and men of cooperatives in the countries of operation and is designed to increase the capacities of individual producers and primary co-operatives to support more inclusive, sustainable, and resilient growth. Supporting institutions, including apex cooperatives, co-operative colleges, and government/regulatory institutions will also be engaged to increase the capacity and prioritization of vulnerable groups.


In Canada the VOICE project will:

  • Increase recruitment, training, and management of skilled and gender-sensitive Canadian
  • Increase awareness of Volunteer program and international development among Canadian
  • Increase engagement of Canadians in International development and key global issues in support
    of the action areas of Canada’s Feminist International Assistance Policy (FIAP).

In the DCPs the VOICE project will:

  • Enhance Institutional and partner capacity to manage and support volunteers.
  • Increase performance of implementing country partners to deliver more inclusive, innovative, and environmentally sustainable initiatives that advance gender equality.
  • Improve acceptance of women’s economic empowerment to promote growth that works for everyone.
  • Improve capacity of primary co-operatives and their members to support marginalized and vulnerable people particularly women and girls.
  • Improve enabling environment for cooperatives to include marginalized and vulnerable people particularly women and girls.


The successful applicant must possess the following skills, experiences, and personal characteristics:

  • Degree or equivalent experience in International Development and/or Social Sciences (focus on Gender, Youth, Community Outreach an asset).
  • Proven professional experience conducting baseline studies, evaluations, assessments with experience using a variety of participatory research methodologies in the field.
  • Experience and knowledge of co-operatives.
  • Excellent facilitation and interpersonal skills.
  • Excellent capacity to analyze, develop recommendations and capture lessons learned.
  • Willing to travel to remote locations.
  • Ability to work autonomously, be flexible and analytical.
  • Knowledge in community participation methodologies.
  • Experience facilitating group learning/training sessions or focus groups.
  • Demonstrated ability and interest in communicating and interacting effectively with people of a different culture.
  • Must be able to work alone as well as with the indigenous farmer community.
  • Ability to transform complex concepts and information into plain language reports.
  • Formal computer skills (Microsoft Office).

Terms and conditions

You must be a permanent resident in the implementing country to be eligible for this volunteer placement and available for 5 months.
